Manchester United’s resurgence in the new year has also seen the resurgence of midfielder Bruno Fernandes, the club talisman who is back in his natural No. 10 role and pulling the strings in United’s attack.

The Portuguese attacker became a club centurion earlier this season, scoring his 100th goal in all competitions for the Reds, and despite a shortened campaign with only two cup games and no European competition, he is still in the running to add to the history books. At 12 assists, Bruno is in reach of the Manchester United club record for Premier League assists in a season, and if he really gets going over the remainder of the campaign, he could feasibly get close to the all-time league record.

The record of most assists in a single Premier League season is 20, a milestone shared by Arsenal’s Thierry Henry and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne. Henry set the record during the 2002/03 campaign and De Bruyne during the 2019/20 campaign.

David Beckham holds the United record with 15 assists during the 1999/00 season, although Eric Cantona provided 16 assists during the 1992/93 season, in which he played for Leeds United before transferring to Manchester United, helping the Reds to the first Premier League crown and their first league title since 1966/67.

Bruno Fernandes only has 11 more matches, assuming he stays healthy for the rest of the season, but the club record is certainly within reach. If United can continue to find goals under interim boss Michael Carrick, Bruno will likely be at the heart of it.
