More than 450 estate agents united in London yesterday for a sell-out Women in Estate Agency event.
The WiEA gathering in London’s Shaw Theatre mixed talks about leadership and community in a relaxed and fun environment.
Verona Frankish, Chair of WIEA
Opening the day, reflected on the journey of the organisation, which connects 5,000 members through its Facebook community.
“We didn’t set out to create another industry event,” she said. “We set out to create a space where people could be honest about the reality of their careers and ambition, the wins and the wobbles, and where everyone could see what might be possible for them.
“It is a movement. And it is most definitely not a conference.”
Sharing leadership storiesIt is a movement. And it is most definitely not a conference.”
Headlining the day were Maxine and Darcy Laceby, founders of Absolute Collagen, who shared the unfiltered story behind building a multi-million pound brand as mother and daughter.
They spoke candidly about risk, resilience and scaling a business without losing sight of family.
Meanwhile, Mary Beeton, Managing Director of Hamptons, Natalie Moore, Founder of A Conveyancing, and lettings expert Hannah McCartan each took to the stage to share the setbacks, hard lessons and defining moments that shaped their leadership journeys.
The headline partner for the event was Rightmove.
WiEA Partnership ProgrammeAlongside the speakers, WiEA used the event to share the next chapter of its work.
The Charter programme has relaunched as the WiEA Partnership Programme, providing expanded benefits for organisations and individuals committed to supporting equality across the property sector.
New leadership roadshow training dates were unveiled, alongside a pilot of this programme designed exclusively for men in the industry.
And a collaboration with Agents Together was announced for “Walk for Sarah” on 12th September in support of Breast Cancer Now, honouring founding board member Sarah Edmundson.
Spirit of Sarah AwardWiEA also introduced the Spirit of Sarah Award on the day, which was created to recognise those who embody Sarah’s generosity, integrity and unwavering commitment to lifting others.
The first recipient was Emma Redley, of Smart Compliance.
As the event drew to a close, Vice Chair Kirsty Franks took to the stage to thank the audience.
“We wanted to put on a show,” she said, “and you absolutely brought it. The energy in that room was extraordinary.
“But none of this happens without the Board and our Champions who live and breathe this community every single day on a voluntary basis. WiEA exists because people care enough to show up for each other. That is what makes this powerful, and that is what will continue to move our industry forward.”
