The star of The Pitt, Noah Wyle, gave an exciting update regarding the production of the hit medical drama's upcoming third season.

Wyle plays The Pitt's protagonist, Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch. The show follows Robby's character and his colleagues as they navigate their chaotic shifts at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. It also offers an up-close look at how working in such a dangerous and demanding environment can take a major toll on the staff's mental health.

During an interview in the press room at The Actor Awards 2026, where ScreenRant was in attendance, Wyle was asked about the progress of The Pitt season 3 and if the HBO show will incorporate real-world healthcare developments. The actor revealed that the creative team is about to hit the writers' room very soon. He explained that, in preparation for season 3, the writers are actively speaking to real professional healthcare workers to ensure that the HBO series will be as accurate as it could possibly be.

Wyle also threw in some additional good news. The Pitt season 3 will be here sooner than fans expected. He revealed that it would be very "timely." He added that the show's strong characters and the endless storylines that could come out of working in an emergency room, makes it so much easier to plan another eventful installment.

We're just about to go back into the writing room for season 3. The first thing we do every season is take a lot of meetings with experts from every vector of healthcare that you could think of and ask them what should be on TV, what would be helpful to the work that they're doing. We're just going to begin that process in the next few weeks. And then from that, we'll pull our stories. Try to get the nail on the head.

Are we going to be timely in season 3? Yes. There's never a shortage of storylines to pull from in an emergency room. And when you have characters that are as rich and diverse and as multidimensional as the ones that we have, it's very easy to just plot them into the future and figure out what they would be struggling with at that point.

Additionally, Wyle spoke about the unfortunate situation many Americans are currently facing due to Medicare's ever-changing financial woes. The actor hinted that The Pitt's upcoming season might tap into the very real problems that hospitals and their staff are facing, and the show's characters may very well be affected by the budget cuts.

Obviously, these cuts in Medicare, the ones that are going to affect Americans and take them off the rolls, hospital closures... There are all sorts of very pressing issues facing hospitals and healthcare workers in America, and we've only scratched the surface, unfortunately.

The Pitt features a massive ensemble cast. The show stars Tracy Ifeachor (Heather Collins), Patrick Ball (Frank Langdon), Katherine LaNasa (Dana Evans), Supriya Ganesh (Samira Mohan), Fiona Dourif (Cassie McKay), Taylor Dearden (Melissa "Mel" King), Isa Briones (Trinity Santos), Gerran Howell (Dennis Whitaker), Shabana Azeez (Victoria Javadi), and Sepideh Moafi (Baran Al-Hashimi) alongside Wyle.

The Pitt seasons 1 and 2 can be streamed on HBO Max. Season 3 does not have an official release date at the time of this article's publication, but it has been speculated to debut in January 2027.
