‘Douglas & Gordon Ltd’ – the firm that entered administration – is to finally be dissolved, three years after it folded.

A new company was formed by CEO James Evans using the name Douglas & Gordon after the sales division of ‘D&G Ltd’ entered administration in 2023.

He bought the firm for £515,000, less than a week after administration, through a new enterprise called Brewham Holdings Ltd.

The original firm’s sales division had split from the more profitable lettings business when new owners Foxtons sold it to Evans in January 2022.

The new Douglas & Gordon now trades as a London estate agency, offering sales and lettings, with a head office in Chelsea.

68 years of business

Its website suggests the company has been in uninterrupted business for 68 years: “Since 1958, Douglas & Gordon has been a trusted name in London property, with deep roots across Central, West, and South West London.”

The period of administration for ‘Douglas and Gordon Limited’, had been extended for a year until 23 February 2026, according to Companies House records.

Redundancies

Fifty staff from the sales team, which was the majority, were made redundant, and only 15 other company staff initially retained.

A report from administrators Grant Thornton published back in 2024 gave an update on the financial state of the business, some of which made for shocking reading.

It included details of 154 unsecured creditors, excluding employees, who had made claims totalling more than £1 million.

HMRC was owed £581,000, but it wasn’t clear how much of that bill would be paid, the report said.
