One Peoria-area diver advanced from the preliminary round of the 2026 Illinois High School Association boys swimming and diving state finals on Friday at the FMC Natatorium in Westmont.

Metamora junior Kenan Nowak took 11th in the diving semifinals with a score of 326.35. This came following a 10th-place finish in the prelims at 221.25. He will dive in the finals at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Richwoods freshman Jude Hill will also compete Saturday in four events for athletes with disabilities — the 200-yard freestyle, 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke.

In total, five relays, six individual swimmers and one diver in 10 events had qualified for state from the sectional level. Here is how Peoria-area boys swimmers and divers fared during those prelims.

  • 200-yard freestyle relay — 21 Washington (Gage Tiezzi, Hudson Essig, Aiden Crull, Jackson Horsthemke) 1:27.28; 31 Dunlap (Alex Strong, Matthew Shin, Calvin Broders, Alex Wang) 1:29.80.

  • 400-yard freestyle relay — 27 Washington (Trace Tiezzi, Hudson Essig, Aiden Crull, Drake Shepherdson) 3:15.59; 33 Galesburg (Mahmoud Shehata, Cole Furrow, Nolan Good, Brayden Mcguire) 3:27.96.

  • 200-yard freestyle — 31 Aiden Crull (Washington, jr.) 1:45.30.

  • 200-yard individual medley — 27 Drake Shepherdson (Washington, jr.) 1:55.86; 39 Brayden Mcguire (Galesburg, soph.) 2:00.62.

  • 50-yard freestyle — 27 Ethan Stone (Metamora, jr.) :21.62; 30 Paxton Dickson (Richwoods, sr.) :21.64; 31 Jackson Horsthemke (Washington, jr.) :21.66.
