Nebraska could practically taste the Quad One victory with a double digit lead early in the fourth quarter. Instead, they were left with a bitter taste as the Ducks rallied and defeated the Huskers 80-76. Nebraska drops to 16-11 overall and 5-11 in the Big Ten. Nebraska was outscored 28-15 in the fourth quarter.

Five Huskers managed double digit scoring with Prince (18), Nissley (15), Petrie (12), and Hargrove and Bozan with 11 each. Nissley, Prince, and Hake dished five assists apiece. That stats overall showed a very even game except where it counts most – shooting. Nebraska was 3-17 (18%) in the fourth quarter while the Ducks were 6-8 (75%). Oregon spent most of the quarter in the bonus and hit 15-18 free throws to salt away the win. Overall, the Huskers shot 29-68 (43%) while the Ducks were 26-52 (50%).

The starting lineup got shuffled with Petra Bozan starting in place of Jess Petrie. The other starters were Britt Prince, Amiah Hargrove, Logan Nissley, and Callin Hake. Both offenses were fast-paced to start and the Ducks raced out to an 8-6 lead in the first two minutes. Bozan and Hargrove each picked up an early foul. The Ducks used extraordinary three-point shooting to increase their lead (13-8 Ore). Oregon’s defense clamped down and Nebraska went cold for two minutes until a Hargrove basket ended the drought (15-10 Ore).

Defense ruled the next 90 seconds until a Kennadi Williams steal and layup cut into the lead. A Petrie three was answered by one from the Ducks (18-15 Ore). Logan Nissley followed free throws with a trail three to tie the game at 20 with one minute left. Petrie has been a shot blocking machine in the middle – having two already. Bozan picked up her second foul. The quarter ended with a turnover by each team.

Second Quarter Notes

Prince opened the quarter with a nice step through basket in the paint. The Huskers have seven early steals compared to three for the Ducks. A Petrie basket increased Nebraska’s lead to four (24-20 Neb). The team seems much more comfortable in this run and gun game than they have in the recent defensive slogs. Amiah Hargrove picked up her second foul which leaves Maupin and Petrie as the only post players without foul trouble. Guess who drew an offensive charge on the Ducks? Yep, Callin Hake (on replay, it looked like a blocking foul). Nebraska’s lead grew to six at the mid-quarter timeout (30-24 Neb). Bozan picked up her third foul.

Fourth Quarter Notes

Nebraska took a double digit lead again but then Bozan picked up her fourth foul and the Ducks sunk both free throws (63-54 Neb). Hargrove picked up her fourth foul as well – eeeek. The next two minutes+ of scoring consisted of free throws (65-57 Neb). Then the Ducks got back in the field goal business and the lead got uncomfortably small (65-62 Neb) with six minutes to go.
